Art society’s colour fades

NORSCOT - Leaving behind two empty rooms at the historic Norscot Manor, the Watercolour Society of Africa is no more.

The society disbanded in December.

The non-profit organisation faltered due to a waning interest and limited members.

Artists and novice painters used the society as a forum to sharpen skills, and to share tips and advice among members.

What made the society unique was their gallery at Norscot Manor. Entrance was free, and works from various artists – members and non-society members alike – were featured.

They also hosted their annual Black Like Us exhibition, featuring works by young black artists to give them more exposure.

The assets of the society have been sold, and any funds they had in their bank account needed to be donated to another non-profit organisation.

Currently, the group and some of its members are currently in contact sharing classes with each other.
