St Peter’s College has a groundbreaking first day

St Peter's College in Sunninghill held a ground breaking ceremony at the school to mark the start of development on their new MADD centre.

MADD stands for music, art, drama and dance, and teachers instructing in these disciplines as well a pupils at the school are eagerly anticipating the construction of the centre.

Laura Jansen, who sits on the school’s council explained that the idea for the centre sprung from the fact that St Peter’s has always placed a strong focus on the arts. “The design for the MADD centre started three years ago during which time there were regular meetings between the engineers, architects and teachers to brainstorm what facilities the centre should include,” she said.

Some of the facilities will be dance studios as well as a recording studio for the music department.

Angie Mullins, head of music at St Peter’s College said, “The recording studio will help us keep up with technological developments. It means that there’s no limit to what we can do.”

Avril Swanepoel, head of arts and culture at the school was excited by the idea that the centre will unify arts under one roof. “I can’t wait to have all those creative energies in one space,” she said.” Just think of the magic that will happen once this centre is built.”
