Tears and laughter mark first day of school

FOURWAYS- The first day of school was a time for laughter and tears for the grade ones entering Witkoppen Primary School.

The only public primary school in Fourways is nestled in the heart of the suburb on William Nicol Drive. The school was established in 1942 and was originally a missionary school which catered for the sons and daughters of farm hands in the Fourways area.

Today the school still offers a valuable education to pupils from in and around Fourways, Bryanston, Lonehill, Kya Sand, Douglasdale, Diepsloot, Cosmo-city and Randburg.

Most of the grade ones looked like deer in headlights during their first assembly. While there were a few tears, there was also the bustle of excitement and anticipation among the school’s newest pupils.

After a stern speech by the staff of the school on being good pupils, the grade ones were introduced to their teachers and led to the classrooms which will become their second homes for the rest of the school year.
