The Parlotones: The story behind the band

MONTECASINO - Skoobs Montecasino made quite a splash for one of the country's leading bands.

The celebrate the release of the book Sold Out, The Official Story of The Parlotones, written by their manager Raphael Domalik, the band joined the festivities to perform for an uproarious crowd.

Narrating the trials and tribulations of the rise of the South African super group, the book is a re-telling of what it took for the band to get where they are from a management perspective.

Often funny and entertaining, but sometimes brutally honest, Domalik takes the reader on a journey filled with ups and downs – complete with insights into the strategic thinking involved in taking a start-up band from zero to hero.

The multi-platinum selling Johannesburg-bred quartet have headlined the 20 000-seater Coca Cola Dome in their hometown in 2009, performed at the FIFA World Cup kick-off concert to a TV audience of a billion in 2010, and were handpicked by Coldplay to open the British band’s stadium shows in Johannesburg and Cape Town in 2011.

The Parlotones staged an original rock theatre production, Dragonflies and Astronauts, which was broadcast live around the world in 3D via DIRECTV and in 2D on Facebook. Over the years, they have raised funds and awareness for a variety of social and environmental organisations, lending their high profile status to initiatives such as Earth Hour, The SABC’s Carbon Free campaign, Nelson Mandela’s 46664, and Live Earth’s Run for Water campaign, among others.
