Sacci supports e-tolls

Johannesburg- The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) has indicated its support of e-tolling by urging its members to comply with the system.

SA National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) welcomed Sacci’s support of e-tolling, saying it is a “significant endorsement”.

Sanral spokesperson, Vusi Mona said: “As with the Gauteng highways, big business is a vital part of the economy of not only this province but of the country.”

In 2010 Sacci expressed concern at the impact that traffic congestion, caused by poor maintenance of infrastructure, had on business.

During the implementation of e-tolls, Sanral had developed e-tolling services to accommodate businesses.

The roads agency said it offers fleet registration services for companies that have a fleet of vehicles, and bulk registration to groups of people in excess of 50, at a venue of their choice.

E-tolling will commence on 3 December.
