Blood brothers comes to Monte

MONTECASINO - David Kramer's adaptation of the hit musical Blood Brothers has opened at the Pieter Toerien Theatre at Montecasino.

The original musical, written by Willy Russell, was set in in 1960’s Liverpool however Kramer has transported the characters into District Six and touched on themes like the Group Areas Act and the forced removals that happened during the 1970s.

The plot revolves around fraternal twins, Mickey and Edward who are separated at birth. Despite the efforts of their biological mother and Edward’s adoptive mother to keep the twins apart they meet during a chance encounter and form a life long bond of friendship, essentially becoming the blood brothers of the title.

Willy Russell has never granted permission for his musical to be adapted or presented in South Africa until now.

Kramer’s adaptation features the musical and dramatic stylings of the extremely talented Bianca le Grange of SA Idols fame as well as an ensemble of up and coming young actors.

By the time the last note was sung there was not a dry eye to be seen in the theatre and the cast received a standing ovation and thunderous applause.
