Riding club welcomes orphans

PAULSHOF - A fun-filled day at the stables.

Rivonia Riding Club in Paulshof hosted 10 orphans from Wendywood home, Hearts of Hope for a day at the stables.

Hearts of Hope is a home for children ranging from the ages of three to 14, and offers residence and care to children who have been orphaned or removed from their homes because of unfit conditions. Deborah van Dongan has been running the home for the past 16 years and is also a foster mother to the children who live there.

The children were taken on a walk through the stables where they were able to pet resident pigs, Daisy and Schnitzel, hold bunnies, feed the chickens and go for rides on Thandi the pony.

After the tour of the stables, the children were treated to a delicious lunch and party at the Mugg and Bean at Cambridge Crossing. The children feasted on chicken nuggets, burgers, chips, waffles and ice-cream while recounting their exciting day.
