Bring back Vavi – Cosatu members

JOHANNESBURG - "Do not destroy your leaders by your bad conduct", Cosatu president S’dumo Dlamini urged as he addressed the union's members outside the Gauteng Legislature during a march against e-tolling and labour brokers in Johannesburg.

Affiliate unions supporting the reinstatement of suspended Cosatu secretary general Zwelinzima Vavi heckled Dlamini and chanted Wenzeni uVavi, Sdumo Khawuphendule [What did Vavi Do? Sdumo, answer]. One marcher held a placard that read: “Bring back our secretary general Zwelinzima Vavi.”

Dlamini called for unity among the federation’s affiliates. He said, “Cosatu is an organisation, there are rules you must follow. I expect you to respect the red house [Cosatu Head Office]; ensure Cosatu remains united. This march is not about the leaders… it’s about the workers. Despite the challenges the federation is faced with, you must defend Cosatu in every space.”

Dlamini further vowed to share the members’ concerns with the broader Cosatu leadership.

“I’ve heard the matters that are worrying you and I’ll report them to the executive committee of Cosatu,” he concluded.
