Artist showcases (adopted) landscapes

BRYANSTON - Fascinating landscapes at Haines Gallery

Gerhard Batha is opening his solo exhibition ‘Adopted Land(scapes)’ at The Haines Gallery, Bryanston on 2 November.

The collection comprises a body of new landscapes painted with a strong use of colour and displays an underlying sense of energy.

Gallery owner Debbie van der Plank believes Batha is irrepressible at the moment and says these works are evidence of his youthful enthusiasm.

The landscapes are an example of his freestyle, impressionist work and depict bright colours and his signature loose use of paint. As well as the oil on canvas landscapes, the exhibition also features Batha’s ‘Small Treasures’.

Batha was born in Vienna in 1937 and moved to South Africa in 1969. Since then, he has made South Africa his home and feels a profound connection to the South African landscape. He has absorbed the spirit of his adopted country through its diverse natural and man-made landscapes, and expresses this most eloquently in this series of works.
