Fourways team fights for environment

The Green Beings, an eco-friendly organisation based in Fourways, is running a campaign to celebrate National Clean-up Week in October.

Prior to this, the non governmental organisation held an annual cleaning and greening campaign for Arbour Week, which created environmental awareness about indigenous trees as well as the need for a clean environment. It also focused on planting indigenous trees and flowers, combating major illegal dumping issues and encouraging a clean and healthy environment in all seven Cosmo City schools as well as in the Cosmo City community.

During Arbour Week, which took place from 2 to 9 September, awareness assemblies were conducted at all seven Cosmo City schools, reaching approximately 8 000 pupils. “The fact-filled assemblies we held highlighted the importance of trees and how to grow and look after them, while the second part of the campaign is set to take over the first week of October: this is where all schools will celebrate National Clean-up Week,” said Marloes Dijkema of the Green Beings organisation.

The Green Beings, together with Pikitup, aim to encourage the community and schools to keep Cosmo City clean.
