Rape survivors receive donation

DIEPSLOOT - Fourways residents together with SA Home Loans collected and donated more than 500 handbags to the Jes Foord Foundation for rape victims.

The foundation’s aim is to help women who have been sexually assaulted by teaching them to see themselves as survivors instead of victims. Fourways residents lent a helping hand by providing the women with toiletries, sanitary towels, scrubbing brushes, new underwear, and personal gifts to help them cope better with the aftermath of sexual violence.

“We’re truly grateful to businesses like SA Home Loans, their partners and the dozens of dedicated volunteers who contributed to making this handbag campaign such a resounding success. One of our primary aims is to help women who have been raped to see themselves as survivors and not victims. These ‘dignity packs’ are an important early step in that process so the hundreds of handbags we received from the Fourways collection drive will make a tremendous impact,” said Trish Buchman, project manager for the foundation.
