Low crime in Lonehill

LONEHILL - At the 17th annual Lonehill Resident's Association Annual General Meeting, the major steps the suburb has taken to ensure a crime-free, family-minded community were discussed.

According to John Siddall, chairman of of the association, Lonehill, Beverley and Pineslopes have 429 security personnel patrolling the suburbs.

Though these measures were in place, some crimes had increased, but could be seen as minimal due to the size of the suburbs. The past year saw a total of 18 housebreakings which was an enviable statistic.

Siddall also shared the association’s action plan for the festive season. “We’ll have four additional street patrollers, and armed guards at the riverfront,” he said.

There will also be additional off-road motorcycle patrols.

On the financial side, Siddall said the association had a net loss of R58 808 last year. He said this was due to the association’s investment in Emergency Response vehicles. “The investment is already paying off,” he said.

The association had also spent money on the upkeep of the park in Lonehill. “Where else will you see people fishing at 6am, or walking around at a park other than Lonehill,” Siddall questioned.
