Three arrested after shooting taxi driver

DIEPSLOOT - A tracing operation led to the arrest of three men who were suspected of shooting a taxi driver.

The Honeydew Cluster Intelligence Unit and Tactical Response Team tracing initiative led to the arrest of the three men aged between 30 and 41 for the alleged shooting of a Diepsloot taxi driver on 8 September.

The suspects were caught in Hillbrow during the early hours of the morning of 11 September.

The police confiscated three licensed firearms, magazines, ammunition and a silver grey Mercedes Benz, believed to have been driven by the taxi driver’s alleged attackers.

According to Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela of Diepsloot police station, occupants of a silver grey Mercedes Benz confronted a group of taxi drivers who were on strike.

“After an argument, one of the occupants of the Mercedes produced a firearm and reportedly shot the victim.”

The suspects will be charged with attempted murder and are set to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.
