Diepsloot police believe the body of five-year-old girl, found on a trash heap on 9 September, was raped before she was murdered.
Police have started a manhunt to find the perpetrator, who bashed open her skull before dumping the body.
The girl was discovered by community members, and used condoms were found alongside her body, according to police.
Authorities have also released the girl’s name. EWN spoke with her grandmother, saying she hoped the culprit was killed.

According to resident Gabriel Sehodi, the body was on a trash heap near the Department of Housing offices.

Colonel Lungelo Dlamini has been assigned the case.
…a plastic bag was wrapped around the head…
“We can’t determine yet if she was raped before being killed,” Dlamini said.
He confirmed that a plastic bag was wrapped around the head, and there was trauma to the body.
The age of the young victim is presumed to be 5-years-old. Community members said the girl went missing on Saturday.
Police are investigating to track down the culprits.
