Pupil wins SA leg in show jumping competition

PAULSHOF - ST Peter's Preparatory pupil Travis Dawson won the South African leg of the 2013 International Equestrian (FEI) Children's Jumping International Classic.

Sylvia Dixon riding Sassy placed second with Kyle Maartens riding Jaluka placed third.

The FEI Children’s International Jumping Competition consists of two competitions that run over different courses designed by a FEI designated course designer.

Each of the two competitions consists of two rounds. Showjumpers from all over the world compete in this competition in their respective countries; competitive equality is created by having all athletes executing a course identically built in each country.

The FEI Children’s International Jumping qualifier classes offer a learning experience for the contestants. These classes are a starting point for the riders to learn about FEI standards, a stepping stone to Young Riders, and an introduction to international competition.

This competition is open to children 12 to 14 years of age. Riders in the top 10 of the world standings, plus the best child rider from each FEI Group, are invited to the finals.

This year the finals will take place from 10 to 15 December in Brazil.
