Management said the casino was winning the war on drugs, arresting and handing over to police people who use drugs at the popular entertainment destination.
“A media report this week suggests Montecasino is a drug hotspot, but the opposite is true,” said Priya Naidoo, general manager group communications at Tsogo Sun. “We do not tolerate drug use at Montecasino.
“Arrests which attracted media attention recently were initiated by our security staff, demonstrating the very strong line we are taking against drug users.
“Montecasino has a higher security presence than most other entertainment destinations, including shopping centres. It is because of this, and thanks to our highly skilled security staff who are constantly on the watch for any drug-related activity, that these people were apprehended,” said Naidoo.
“It is due to this vigilance that Montecasino has come under the spotlight as a drug hotspot where ironically, the opposite is true, we are catching them and flushing them out and not turning a blind eye,” added Naidoo .
“These arrests are good news, they show that our security staff have been able to spot and arrest drug users immediately.”
Naidoo said Montecasino had been actively pursuing its objective of providing leisure facilities for young people in a secure environment. It worked to this end with community leaders, including the local community police forum and representatives of local schools.
“Our security staff are instructed to be on the watch for offenders, including in our car parks where trained and uniformed security personnel patrol on a 24-hour basis. In the event of any incident of drug use, we detain them and hand them over to the police,” Naidoo said
“We hope this sends a message to drugs users to stay away from Montecasino.”
