Smash and grab trend

FOURWAYS - A motorist says smash and grabs in the Fourways area are on the rise.

In response to the story Smash-n-grab in peak traffic

I witnessed a smash and grab in a similar spot on Main Road near Magaliessig. It was just after the bridge, driving towards Lonehill.

A man wearing a blue windbreaker and blue jeans ran up to a car, smashed the window and tried to grab the phone from the passenger side of the vehicle.

The woman driver was pregnant. The man was caught and police arrived and took him away. This happened on 2 July at about 5.20pm in peak traffic and the cars were stationary.

There seems to be a pattern as the following Tuesday, on 9 July, it occurred again, as per the article.

  1. I travel down main road on my route home and this is happening daily. There are always two young men working together who pretend to be begging. They are very well dressed and they target EVERYONE..They approach the car from both sides – be alert!! They are going to be run over in due course though and they make their escape accross the emergency lane where everyone “speeds” – so good luck to them.
