Residents pick their most influential community member

Being a victim of Gender-based violence came as a wake-up call to help people in her community.

Lonehill resident, Michelle Chelliah Singh was selected as one of the top 100 influential women in the country. She was nominated by members of her community who chose her for the way she serves and helps her community. Singh has proven to be very helpful in her community including taking care of a total of 600 children who are orphans or abandoned.

“We also help abused women and children by providing them with necessities like clothing, toiletries, food hampers, and so on. We assist them with trauma counseling and emotional support,” said Singh. Her NPO, Love Light Care Foundation, works in four informal settlements (Fandisi Old Lion Park, Msaswawa, Pipeline, and Diepsloot)where they do meal drives providing sandwiches and beverages to the less fortunate.

Love Light Care Foundation NPO was founded by Michelle Chelliah Singh to better people within her community.

The 47-year-old will do everything in her power to give back to her community including sharing her story of how she was also a victim of gender-based violence. “It took a lot from me to get the courage to leave a 12-year marriage because of abuse. I am glad I left that situation because it was also affecting my two daughters.” This incident was a wake-up call to help and motivate people who do not think they have their own voices.
Singh is now happily married and always looking to help the next person.
