Lonehill residents rally behind Springboks

The game between the Springboks and Scotland on September 10 encouraged residents to decorate their homes even more.

The residents of Lonehill are showing their support for the Springboks by decorating their homes with the Bok colours and national flag.

This initiative initiated by the Lonehill’s Residence Association encouraged people to decorate their homes, roads, businesses, and schools with green and gold to show their support for the Bokke.

“Use green and gold flags, bunting, wrap trees in whatever you can to show your support in the true spirit of our amazing community, and be ready for the Springboks to bring it home,” urged Miller.

Mykonos Estate is decorated with green and gold balloons in support of the Springboks.

According to the media liaison of the association, Shelly Miller, residents have been enthusiastic about this initiative.

“After the match on September 10 [Boks beat Scotland], community members stepped up even more and decorated with their hearts of hope.”
Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy commented, “This allows us to enjoy and be part of the World Cup even though it is not on our continent. The decorations bring up the spirit of the World Cup and allow us to enjoy the game better.”

A windmill is decorated with green and gold flags, the colours of the Springboks.

He said Lonehill looked like a super-fan park.
“It is beautiful and it makes me happy to know that the community is working together on this project. We last had this kind of unity during the 2010 Fifa World Cup and I am glad South Africans are once again uniting to support of their home teams.”
