Artist tells stories through artwork

His greatest ambition is to have his artwork displayed at local art galleries so that people can see what he creates.

An artist from Randburg, Bongani Mabena, loves expressing emotions through artwork.

The 32-year-old artist said that he began sketching at a young age with cars that looked like bricks on wheels.

“However, as time passed, I developed a love and interest for drawing human faces and landscapes,” Mabena explained.

His passion for sketching human faces grew to another level. “I enjoy drawing the faces of older men because their faces can tell stories and have personalities.”

He added, “Even though I am still a beginner and learning how to paint, I enjoy painting and would like to do paintings with a message.”

Art allows him to express himself and how he feels about something. “The painting of a trumpet man and charcoal sketches of my friend has a special place in my heart because I enjoyed doing them,” he said with a smile.

Bongani said that people love and appreciate his work. “Some are still in disbelief of what I produce and even of myself,” he added.

His goal is to exhibit his artwork at local art fairs, galleries, and even outside the country, as well as collaborate with other brilliant artists.
