SAPS Douglasdale partners with stakeholders for the community engagement and outreach programme in Kya Sand

Douglasdale Police recently partnered with other stakeholders that include Daily Bread, SANCA, Government Community (GCIS), Health Post, CR Church, Vukuzenzele, GBV Brigades and Impact Africa Baby Rescue to organise a community engagement and outreach programme in Kya Sand Informal Settlement. The event was held at the Vukuzenzele Community Centre in the pipeline and aimed to bring the community together and provide support to those in need.

During the event, members of the community were able to interact with representatives from the various organisations and receive information on different topics, including the services offered by each organisation. In addition, there were talks and presentations on the importance of community safety, drug abuse prevention, and gender-based violence awareness.

The police addressed the importance of reporting crimes and encouraged the community not to be bystanders when a crime is happening in their area but rather to partner with the police in the fight against crime.

Rose Mmopane, a resident in Kya Sand, said, “Gift project is a blessing to our community. Since we have the information that we can share and it’s good to know where you are staying, who to work, and report to if something happens. This programme needs to happen on a monthly basis so that many people can get help.”

One of the highlights of the day was the distribution of clothes to the beneficiaries of Vukuzenzele and other community members. The clothes were donated by Daily Bread and Fourways Mall, and the recipients were grateful for the support.

Maria Varfis, Group Marketing Head, Fourways Mall said, “We continue to serve and commit to the upliftment of the community through various initiatives. Fourways Mall donated 2.4 tons of clothing, shoes, and household items (bedding, linen, towels) to The Daily Bread.

“The donation box project is ongoing, and we continue accepting donations across all categories. We are so grateful to have such a committed and passionate organisation- The Daily Bread, that is embedded in the community to ensure that everything donated is put to good use, by those who need it most.”

The community engagement and outreach programme was a success, with many participants expressing appreciation for the support and resources provided. The SAPS Douglasdale and other stakeholders plan to continue working together to support the Kya Sand community and promote a safe and thriving environment for all.
