Action netball stars raised funds for the upcoming indoor netball tri-series in Australia.
Action netball players Nniny Tlhone, Gibon Mogole, Melusi Molefe, and internationally graded umpire Buddy Ntsoelengoe hosted a netball tournament at Beaulieu College to raise funds for the tri-series world cup against Australia and New Zealand in September.
The tournament consisted of made-up and existing teams of U13, U15, and U19 girls and mixed teams in different categories. The successful turnout of the tournament was a great boost to the players and umpire as the sport struggles to attract sponsorship.
“We are happy with the turnout; teams came out ready to compete. We organised this tournament because each player needs about R65 000 for the trip, action sports are not something that attract a lot of sponsors. This has been our way of raising funds and awareness as we will need the support to go all the way,” said Tlhone.
Tlhone will represent South Africa in the ladies’ team, while Mogole and Molefe will represent the men’s team as they hope to overcome their opponents for the big prize. “Our aim is to do great in what we do and hopefully win it. We have unbelievable talent in this country, and I believe we can make our mark,” she added.
The players and umpire will hope to soon start to focus their strength and time to prepare for the big tournament as it fast approaches.
