Leeuwkop Correctional Facility official to represent South Africa at International Disability Sports Event

From Leeuwkop Correctional Facility to the international stage. Momay De Beer will represent South Africa as a coach and manager at the Changwon 2023 World Shooting Para Sport World Cup for the Disabled.

Momay De Beer has been chosen to accompany Von Zeuner Köhne- an athlete- as a coach and manager, representing South Africa on the international sporting stage.

De Beer, an official from the Leeuwkop Correctional Facility, is set to put the Department of Correctional Services on the global map as he represents South Africa as a manager and coach at the Changwon 2023 World Shooting Para Sport World Cup for the Disabled.

The event will take place in Changwon, South Korea, from May 22 to June 1, 2023. If they rank among the top 19 participants, they will qualify for the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, France.

De Beer with some of the medals he has won.

De Beer currently serves as a firearm and pistol trainer at the Leeuwkop Training Centre and holds the position of vice president of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) in South Africa. With a passion for competitive and recreational extreme sporting activities: De Beer has been involved in pistol, firearm, and tear gas training since 2000, earning numerous medals and trophies over the years.

In a recent competition held at the South African National Defense Forces’ (SANDF) Eeufees Shooting Range in Pretoria, De Beer achieved outstanding results, including six gold medals, six silver medals, the trophy for Best Rapid-Fire Pistol Shooter 2023, and the Stirling Silver Medal for South African ISSF Men’s Opens Champion 2023.

In a weekly published newsletter, Makgothi Thobakgale, the National Commissioner of the Department of Correctional Services, congratulated De Beer and Köhne on their remarkable achievement and extended his good wishes for their pursuit of international sporting accolades.

When asked about his accomplishments, De Beer expressed his delight and humility. He stated that he is grateful for the opportunity he has been granted. He emphasized the importance of passion, discipline, and the application of skills in achieving success. He also thanked his friends, family, and colleagues for their congratulatory messages and expressed his anticipation for the memorable moments to come as they travel abroad to participate in the world cup.
