VOX POP: Are community meetings with ward councillors and police effective?

Many Fourways residents spoke on the effectiveness of community meetings where issues of crime, safety and service delivery were addressed.

Fourways Review asked community members at a recent meeting whether collaborations with police and other community organisations are effective.

With entities like Douglasdale police, Community Policing Forum, JMPD (Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department) and ward councillors, residents got to voice their concerns and queries on various issues. Feedback was also presented on a number of concerns.

The Fourways Review asked residents if they feel community meetings show some effectiveness and difference in the community.

Linsey Dyer: Absolutely. I think community members had a lot to get off their chest here tonight. It was good to connect with the various stakeholders. Particularly with those in security.
Brett Holding: They are effective if we get enough people on board. One problem I see is that we always see the same faces in these meetings. We don’t see the broader community attending these meetings. The more people involved, especially in safety and security, the better.
