Platina Street bridge temporarily closed

JRA closes the bridge due to its unstable structure.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) confirmed that the Platina Street bridge in Jukskei Park has been temporarily closed.

Following a Fourways Review article two weeks ago, JRA released a statement on March 24 after residents and ward councillors raised concerns for their safety, pleading with city entities to intervene after the bridge flooded on March 7.

According to the JRA planning team, the structure of the bridge had been compromised as debris and waste had blocked the water channels, which caused flooding around the bridge.

Motorists approaching the area from the east are requested to make use of Juweel and Chrisoliet streets and Witkoppen Road.
From the west, motorists cam make use of Robyn, School and Market streets and Witkoppen Road to access the area east of the river. Alternatively, Mangaan and Karbiet streets can be used as crossing points.

Residents are advised to report all road service defects to the City of Joburg call centre at 0860 562 874. Theft and vandalism of road infrastructure can be reported to JMPD and SAPS.
