Self-published author grateful for community support

A local self-published author celebrated the success and acknowledged his book received from the Fourways community.

A local author recently had his first work published in the Fourways area.

A fictional book on Greek mythology, self-published author Caleb Gumbo (26) has had an interest in the subject since he was a child.
The book, Inheritors of Power, recently went on sale at Exclusive Books in Fourways. It has since reached second place in the bookstore’s weekly top-10 shelf.
This young urban fantasy story is the first volume in what will be a series. It follows the character Kal Knights who is forced to inherit the power and responsibilities of Hades, the former god of death.

He has been writing since the age of 12. “It was this interest in mythology that made me want to write my own modern retelling,” he said.
“Instead of it being about the children of the gods or the many conflicts of the gods, I decided I wanted to take a unique approach where regular humans are elevated to their level and forced to deal with the responsibilities of the gods.”

He felt immense pride at readers taking an interest in his book. “This feels so amazing that sometimes I wonder if it’s real and if I am about to wake up from a dream. The fact that they are interested and actually decide to purchase the book, means more to me than I will ever be able to properly express with words.
“It is one thing for people who know me to show support and buy my book. For those who don’t know me at all, to take an interest in my work and purchase it enough times for my book to be placed in a single store’s weekly top 10 feels amazing.”

Gumbo hopes to eventually write in various mediums. “Although right now, I primarily write books. I hope to grow into a writer for television, movies, comic books and video games. Those are long-term goals of mine.”
Currently, he is working on the next two volumes of the series – Fear the Fae and Heart of the Oven.
