Philanthropist thanks Fourways Review for its consistent support

67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day's Carolyn Steyn shows appreciation to Fourways Review and local media.

Award-winning philanthropist, founder, and CEO of the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative, Carolyn Steyn has not only kept the country warm with her annual blanket drive but also warmed the Fourways Review with her love and appreciation.

Steyn, who founded the annual blanket drive NPO, has been an active member of the Fourways community along with her husband since 2013 and seems to love everything about her community and what it offers.

“My husband Douw Steyn and I moved into our home Palazzo Steyn exactly 10 years ago at Steyn City in Fourways where I also present a radio show called Hot Classic every night Monday to Saturday on Hot 1027 FM which is broadcast in the Fourways area and around Johannesburg,” she said. “I love Fourways, from top restaurants, and great shopping centres to fantastic live theatre and concerts, Fourways has so much to offer.”

She is no stranger to the limelight and vividly remembers her first appearance in the Fourways Review as if it were yesterday. “The first time we appeared in the Fourways Review was back in 2014. Bikers for Mandela were making their first journey around South Africa after Nelson Mandela passed away. 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day handed over blankets to the bikers who included DJ Fresh, Anele Mdoda and Madiba’s former assistant, Zelda La Grange. They departed from Auto and General Park in Fourways to distribute those handmade blankets to 67 Diepsloot-based beneficiaries. It was a very proud moment.”

Steyn commended the work community media does to help local charities and community projects. “Local media, like the Fourways Review, is a great resource for residents who want to become more active in their community and learn more about community events. They keep people entertained and informed, helping to foster an environment of good governance. It empowers our community with information, inspiring people to act for social change.”

Local media plays a large role in assisting charities and other organisations to get the word out about their projects. “The ‘blanket coverage’ we have received from the Fourways Review has helped bring attention to 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, and there are now several groups of Knitwits for Madiba in the Fourways area who get together on a regular basis to make blankets with love and their own two hands for communities in need.”

“The Fourways Review has been incredibly supportive and has featured several stories about 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day since we started nine years ago, helping to raise our profile in the area and attract new members and support for our organisation. We are always so grateful to the Fourways Review for your continued coverage of 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day. Long may it continue.”
