Beaulieu alumnus looks forward to assistant coaching stint for U17 indoor cricket team

The U17 South African indoor cricket team has a local coaching taking the assistant coach reigns with the U17 World Cup approaching.

A local cricket coach is ready to get the national U17 indoor cricket team a world cup title.

Matthew Fliescher, a Beaulieu College alumnus, will be assisting the South African U17 indoor cricket side to add more gold to their cabinet in the upcoming U17 World Cup taking place in Dubai later this year.

With this being the second year he is part of the coaching set up with the age group, Fliescher has high hopes for the team in the upcoming world cup.
Fliescher was a part of the coaching staff when the team won gold in a tri-series tournament against England and the UAE in the United Arab Emirates.
“This will be my first world cup. I am hugely grateful for the opportunity to be the assistant coach and learn from the coaching staff around me. I am quietly confident about our chances but what coach wouldn’t be,” he said.

The assistant coach currently plays indoor cricket at a social level and is the junior head coach at Randburg Cricket Club. He started playing the sport at the age of 10 but stopped playing outdoor cricket at the age of 25.
During his high school days at Beaulieu College, Fliescher was an all-rounder who was then shaped into being a bowler as he got older. He was the opening bowler and captain of the school’s first team.

Coaching at the highest level is his dream.
“I think that every coach has a dream to coach at the highest level. Whether that be a club, franchise, IPL [Indian Premier League] and international. For me, I wouldn’t say no to the Proteas or the IPL.”
