As the time for the senior IPT in action netball approaches, the Fourways Falcons Action Sports Arena teams hosted a fun family day to raise funds for their teams.

Fourways Falcons Action Sports netball players got into the fundraising spirit for their upcoming interprovincial tournament.

Local action netball players gearing up for their senior interprovincial tournament (IPT) hosted a fundraiser.
The Fourways Falcons Action Sports Arena was a hub of fun activities with food and drinks on sale to raise funds for 12 senior and 13 junior teams from the arena.

Co-owner of the arena Samantha de Wit said the funds raised for the teams heading to the tournament would also go towards an initiative to help underprivileged children in the Diepsloot community as they have a few of them in their teams that will represent the province.
“We have partnered up with the Diepsloot Youth Programme as well. We took the children under our wing and the fundraising is to get them where they need to be. They don’t have the means for many things such as takkies, and we had a whole takkie drive for them so they could play,” she said.

“Games [at the tournament] are an hour long and you can play from three to six games a day. There will be costs involved like the game fees and kit. Those who play in the tournament will get their provincial colours as we are the North Western Gauteng side.”

The turnout on the day saw many action netball and action cricket players from the arena come and show their support for the joint initiative, which added to the tight-knit atmosphere.
“We had pumped this event on social media to get people to come and take part in the activities, so the turnout has been really good. It’s been cross-sport support from everyone here today, and it has really been great.”

The teams will be up against the likes of Free State, North West, KwaZulu-Natal, and Western Province in the week-long tournament that De Wit said would be tough.
The interprovincial tournament is set to take place at the end of February with the junior tournament to take place in March.
