WATCH: Newly formed civil society group ‘StandUpSA’ submits a memorandum of demands to Eskom
Eskom will respond to the memorandum in 30 days.
[Update: 13:00 February 2]
Civil society group StandUpSA with the support of various organisations such as Dare to Love, Vuka Zenzele, Voice It In Action and Rise Mzansi marched to Eskom’s Megawatt Park and submitted a memorandum of demands to the power utility’s senior manager Pat Skosana.
At first, the crowd did not welcome Skosana and was disappointed at the lack of Eskom’s representatives, however, StandUpSA founder Khustaz Mtwentwe managed to calm the crown down before reading the memorandum. The extensive list was formulated based on a public participation process where the organisation asked people what they wanted.

Upon receiving the memorandum, Skosana told the crowd he has noted the demands, will take them back to Eskom and they [Eskom] will respond within 30 days. He said he is also affected by load-shedding and does not have power at home. Many in the crowd voiced their disbelief at this, saying he is not telling the truth.

A newly formed civil society group of ordinary citizens tired of load-shedding has decided to take to the streets and march to Eskom’s headquarters at Megawatt Park, Sunninghill on February 2.
The group was formed in just under three weeks to show objection to load-shedding as well as the 18,65% electricity tariff hike to be implemented in April.
The starting point is at Bowling Avenue to Megawatt Park where they will submit their memorandum of demands.
