Police have launched a manhunt following a brutal killing of an elderly man in Chartwell

Gauteng police spokesperson said the a case of murder and house robbery has been opened at Douglasdale Police Station.

The community has been urged to play their part in the fight against crime after a 68-year-old Chartwell man was shot and killed during a robbery in his home.

Ward 96 councillor Rufus Maswazi urged residents to report crime and work with the police to curb crime in the area. “Crime is one the biggest challenge in our communities. It is sad that an elderly citizen was killed in such a brutal way in his house. We need to work together as communities to fight this scourge. I hope that the police will soon apprehend the perpetrators,” he said.

Gauteng provincial police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said a case of murder and house robbery had been opened at the Douglasdale Police Station. “The police in Douglasdale are investigating a case of murder after a 68-year-old man was killed during a house robbery at his house in Chartwell. According to the report, on January 9 the victim was with his wife when they heard a loud bang on the door.

“The victim went to investigate and that is when he was shot and unknown suspects entered the house, robbing them of a cellphone, laptop, television and an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim was declared dead on the scene.”
