King of the Whip competition sees Fourways motocross rider make 23m jump

Hosted at Montecasino, Trent Valsecchi from Fourways was glad to have been able to take part in the day's events.

A Fourways-based motocross rider who took part in the King of the Whip competition at Montecasino cleared a 23m jump in front of a sold-out crowd of 5 000 spectators.

Trent Valsecchi (12) showed his best tricks and whips among some of the best motocross and freestyle motocross riders in the country.

Looking back on the competition held in Fourways, the young rider said it was ‘one of the coolest experiences’ as previously the event did not allow riders of a young age to take part.
“I would like to do more, the atmosphere was so different to a race. It’s lots of fun. Don’t think my mom’s heart can take it though. I would like to thank Uncle Ryan Van Der Spuy from LW Mag for giving me the opportunity and Uncle Dallan Godman from Jungle Rush FMX who helped me with my training for King of the Whip,” Trent told Fourways Review.

Leading up to the competition at Montecasino, he had previously represented South Africa in the Junior Motocross Worlds competition in Finland, but he recalled having a bit of bad luck during the race.

“I was doing well but fell in the last corner and went from fifth down to 34th, but I loved every minute of it and Finland was super cool.
“I returned [to the country] and completed in the SA Dirt Bike Festival which is a three-day event and won. It’s the first time I got prize money for my win. I have saved it up to buy some cool kicks [shoes]. I also competed in the last two rounds of the South African Nationals and finished first in both.”
He added that he was looking forward to riding his KRM 85cc after finishing racing on his trusty KTM 65cc bike.

Now having some time off from riding, Trent said he would continue his training as he would be taking part in the EMX85 European Championship next year.
“A special thank you to everyone who has helped me this year with on and off-bike training. I am super excited about next year. I just love this sport.”
