South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind welcomes auctions and contributions from the community at gala dinner

After a two-year break, the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind welcomed supporters and attendees dressed to impress for their gala dinner fundraiser.

Close to R250 000 has been raised for the cutest companions for the visually impaired thanks to a successful gala dinner.

With the theme of the evening being ‘making dreams come true’, the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind hosted the Johannesburg Gala Dinner after a two-year hiatus from Covid-19.
Melanie Nel from the South African Guide-Dogs Association said the association was in awe of the generosity of attendees that evening. A number of activities took place with attendees that gave a glimpse into what the association does.

“Attendees generously supported the auction and pledged to donate towards these life-changing services, this all contributed hugely to the success of the event,” she said.
“They also got a glimpse into the world of a visually impaired person with the hosting of a blindfold food- and wine tasting; a special demonstration by our team of Service Dogs Trainers was also a highlight of the evening and a heart-warming video of one of our clients and his Autism Support Dog just emphasised again the importance of the services offered by SA Guide-Dogs Association.”

Nel said there are still ways in which community members and businesses can get involved with donations to the association, namely their ongoing raffle for a R100 ticket to win prizes from Suzuki. “Donations are always welcome. Persons can also commit to becoming a monthly donor through a debit order – this helps us to plan ahead, knowing what the steady monthly income will be,” she said.
“The annual Suzuki Competition only closes on December 31; these can be purchased from our online web shop. Our beautiful 2023 Calendars are also available now and we’ll be launching some exciting Festive Season merchandise soon.”

Nel concluded that there is a hope to host a gala dinner every year, but the association’s calendar consists of a number of other activities community members can attend and support.
