Sanco in Zone 14 raises concerns with ongoing political instability in the City of Johannesburg council

Sanco chairperson said they will continue to call for a mayoral candidate that will give priority to all residents of the city regardless of their colour, race and economic status.

The chairperson of the South African National Civic Organization (Sanco) in Zone 14, Peter Lekalakala said political instability in the City of Johannesburg was likely to negatively impact service delivery.

Sanco Zone 14 sub-region includes Greater Fourways, Cosmo City, Kya Sands, Diepsloot and parts of Randburg.

This was after the Gauteng South High Court recently declared the removal as unlawful of Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor Mpho Phalatse as the mayor of the City of Johannesburg through a motion of no confidence on September 30.

“As Sanco in Zone 14, we’ve noted and welcomed the court decision to reinstate Mpho Phalatse as mayor in the City of Johannesburg metro. We, however, reiterate that we will not support any DA-led administration or candidate for the position of the mayor in the City of Johannesburg,” Lekalakala said.

He added Sanco would continue to call for a mayoral candidate who would give priority to all residents of the city, regardless of their colour, race and economic status.
