Local special-needs school hosts technical occupational programme learning session and fun day

Learners form both Edustreams and Tembisa Commercial Entrepreneurship School of Specialisation enjoyed working together.

Edustreams School for learners with special learning needs recently hosted a technical occupational programme learning session and fun day with learners from Tembisa Commercial Entrepreneurship School of Specialisation in Kyalami.

Learners from both schools were paired in groups and worked together in different activities to foster working relationships and share experiences.

Head of school at Edustreams School, Alan Nambiar said the technical occupational programme learning session and fun day was aimed at bringing learners with similar learning difficulties together in order to help them learn from each other.

“We invited learners from Tembisa Commercial Entrepreneurship School of Specialisation to come and have fun with us in order to help learners interact with those having similar conditions. Learners were given tasks to prepare healthy meals together and participate in fun sports activities.”

He said the event also helped learners understand that being different makes no difference. “Our school believes that no learner should be left behind because of their condition. These learners are capable of doing anything if given a chance to prove their capabilities. We encourage parents of children with learning difficulties not to deprive them of their right to education.”
