Fourways residents among Dabulamanzi Canoe Club members who completed canoe marathon

Emmarentia-based canoe club sees Fourways residents also take part in the recently-held Fish River Canoe Marathon in the Eastern Cape.

A Fourways father and son were among paddlers of Dabulamanzi Canoe Club in Emmarentia who headed down to Cradock in the Eastern Cape where they took part in the Fish River Canoe Marathon.

The event took place at Grassridge Dam Cape and the paddlers took on 80km of wild water and numerous challenging rapids over two days.
Jennie Dallas, Gauteng Canoe Union media liaison said, “While there were some top finishers from the local club in Gauteng at Emmarentia Dam, Dabulamanzi Canoe Club, there were also father and son combinations…

“Kelvin Byres and his 15-year-old son Jordan Byres from Fourways enjoyed the white water exciting challenge while family friend Mark Garden completed the three-man kayak [K3] which provides excellent stability to take novices or less experienced paddlers into the exciting rough wild water challenges.”
The K3 trio finished the 80km two-day event in 05:31:12 to come second overall in the category.
