Fourways artists capture the roots of South Africa for local hair company

Learners from the same art class in Fourways High School were tasked with showcasing South African buildings and philosophies in an artist campaign by a local hair care company.

Three learners of Fourways High School were chosen in an art campaign that showcases their appreciation of their local roots.

Grade 11 learners Skye Mackinnon, Saraswati Saijal Pathe and Paballo Mohaji had their artwork chosen for a hair product’s Christmas gift sets. Biosense, a locally-based hair care product ran a campaign, Back to your Roots with the aim of uplifting and enriching upcoming artists in the country.

All three artists were elated at the news of their artworks being chosen for the campaign which required them to produce art pieces focusing on South African cities, buildings or ideologies.
Skye’s artwork focused on the Rainbow Nation, Saijal’s the Johannesburg skyline and Paballo’s on the baobab tree.

“Biosense had posted on their social media sites that they were looking for up-and-coming artists and I saw the posts. I then told Saijal and Paballo about it and they entered as well,” said Skye.
The original artworks by the learners will be auctioned off by Biosense and the proceeds would go towards the learners’ university funds.
“We were told about the auction but the news is still always great that we were given this chance,” concluded Saijal.
