Pastor shot and killed during a robbery at a Diepsloot church

Local church pastor shot and killed in a robbery during the church service in Diepsloot

Police spokesperson in Gauteng Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said police have launched a manhunt after five armed men stormed into a church and fired shots that led to the death of the pastor and injured two congregants on October 14.

He said about 50 congregants of Holiness Christian Revival Church in Diepsloot were praying and worshipping when the five unknown men entered the church at about 23:45 and allegedly started shooting. “They [the suspects] robbed the congregants of their cash and cellphones. Three of the people who were shot, including the pastor, were taken to a local medical centre where the pastor died on arrival. The other two are in serious but stable condition.”
Masondo said a case of murder, attempted murder and business robbery had been opened.

He appealed to members of the public and anyone who might have information that could help in the investigation or assist in the apprehension of the perpetrators to please call their nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
