Residents march to hand over a memorandum of demands at local police station

Diepsloot Police Station spokesperson, Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said station management would meet with community leaders to address the matter.

Scores of Diepsloot residents marched to a local police station to demand proactive and visible policing in the area.

Community leader and resident of Diepsloot Eddie Mkhomazi said they marched to the station on October 13 to deliver a memorandum of demands. He alleged that more than 10 people were recently killed in the area and police failed to arrest the perpetrators.

“The march was about the high crime rate in Diepsloot. Residents are being attacked in their homes and taverns and local police are doing nothing to protect residents. The crime rate here in Diepsloot has escalated again after the resources that were deployed earlier this year were taken away without notifying the community.”

Diepsloot Police Station spokesperson, Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said the station management will meet with community leaders to address the matter. “The demands outlined in the memorandum included increased policing visibility, proactive policing, routine patrols, state of emergency, honest police officers, deployment of TRT, crime-free Diepsloot, patriotic police officers and arresting of murder suspects. The station management will meet with community leaders to address these demands.
