19 arrested by Douglasdale police in three days

Douglasdale police are appealing to the public to continue reporting all observed criminal activity.

Douglasdale police arrested 19 suspects from October 7 to October 9 during operations that were conducted throughout the area.

Spokesperson Captain Mpho Tshetlhane said the suspects were arrested for different crimes ranging from attempted business break-in, possession of drugs, theft, dealing in liquor without a license, and driving while intoxicated.

“The arrested suspects will appear at the Randburg Magistrates Court soon.”

Tshetlhane provides crime prevention tips.

Hijacking:

  • Avoid being alone in a vehicle when travelling at night.
  • Do not stop around hijacking spots or at any secluded area.
  • Always be alert when driving. If you suspect that you are being followed, drive to your nearest police station or call SAPS Emergency number 10111.
  • Do not pick up hitchhikers, particularly when you drive alone.
  • Do not text and drive, or drink and drive.
  • Be more vigilant at intersections – always look out for people loitering around your car or any sudden activity around your car.

House robberies:

  • Always be on the lookout for suspicious persons and vehicles.
  • Enhance security by fitting access doors with security gates and installing burglar bars on windows.
  • Ask neighbours to keep an eye on your home when you go away for an extended period.
  • Do not open gates and doors for strangers.
  • Verify the details of anyone before you employ them and check the authenticity of a contractor before you allow access to the premises.

Business robberies:

  • Do not keep too much money on the business premises.
  • Be on the lookout for suspicious customers.
  • Do not keep the shop open till late.
  • Avoid being alone, especially at night.
  • Business owners must not open for anyone after the business has closed.
