New ANC leadership in Zone 14 promises to help ruling party retain its position as a leader of society

Newly elected ANC Zone 14 leadership is on a mission to strengthen branches.

The ANC in the Zone 14 sub-region has elected Rufus Maswazi as their new chairperson.

Maswazi who is a Ward 96 councillor in the City of Johannesburg was elected at a zonal conference at Indaba Hotel in Fourways on September 18.

He was elected along with his deputy, Tshepo Marakalala, secretary Mapule Mosito, deputy secretary Lwando Sibeko and Lucas Vondo who was elected treasurer.

Zone 14 is the ANC and their affiliate sub-region that covers areas such as Fourways, Diepsloost, Cosmo City, Zandspruit, Kya Sands and some parts of Randburg. Maswazi said the newly elected leadership was given the mandate to strengthen ANC branches in the zone.

“The new leadership has a mammoth task ahead to build and strengthen branches. Our organisation and our branches have suffered because of Covid-19 that made it almost impossible for them to hold meetings.”

He said they want the zone to be among those that will help the ruling party get high numbers to retain its leadership position.

“The national elections are around the corner, this new leadership must ensure that the ANC gets enough votes to retain the province and we want to be among those that help the party realise that dream.”

Maswazi added that the branches were in the process of raising their preferred candidates for the top positions at the party’s 55th national conference in December at Nasrec.

“Our branches are in the process of raising names for those who will take over the leadership of ANC in December. Ward 96 has raised the name of President Cyril Ramaphosa as president, Paul Mashatile as deputy president, Mbuyiseni Ntuli as general secretary and Pule Mabe as treasurer general.”
