Residents of Clay Oven Informal settlements meet their ward councillor to discuss service delivery issues

Community leader asked the councillor to give them an update on a proposed relocation plan and bring a new contractor to clean their toilets.

The residents of Clay Oven Informal Settlement said they were happy that they have finally met their ward councillor after almost a year since his election into office.

This was after Ward 93 councillor, Vino Reddy and Department of Human Settlement officials recently held a community meeting with residents of Clay Oven to discuss housing and service delivery issues raised by residents.

Community leader and resident of Clay Oven, Sabina Molale asked Reddy to give them an update on a proposed relocation plan and bring a new contractor to clean their toilets.

“We are grateful that you‘ve finally come to meet us as a community of Clay Oven. We have a number of issues that we want to discuss with you. One of them is the issue of a company that you brought to clean our toilets and has failed to do its job. We want the company that was doing the job before this one to come back because it serviced us very well, unlike the new one.”

Reddy said the community meeting was productive and has helped improve relations and communication between all stakeholders.

“I have called on the Clay Oven informal settlement to establish a representative committee to facilitate communication between all stakeholders. I will also be meeting regularly with the residents of Clay oven with the first meeting scheduled for October.”

Reddy said he has also requested Johannesburg Water to send a team that will repair or replace the public toilets used by residents.

“I have written to Johannesburg Water asking about the terms and conditions of the contract, the frequency of service and a reason for the reduced service. I will continue to broach the issue with Joburg Water until satisfactory service levels are achieved and the toilets repaired or replaced,” Reddy said.
