Lonehill Residents Association partners with City Parks to clean up Jukskei River on World Cleanup Day

Ward 94 councillor expressed his satisfaction with the involvement of community members and thanked Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo for organising the cleaning campaign.

Residents of Lonehill and surrounding areas led by the environment team of Lonehill Residents Association came out in their numbers to take part in this year’s World Cleanup Day on September 17.

The clean-up targeted the Jukskei River which flows from Bertrams in the Johannesburg CBD to Hartbeespoort Dam in North West Province.

The association’s marketing manager Shelly Miller said community involvement in clean-up campaigns such as World Cleanup Day was important in the fight against litter.
“We are happy to see members of the community heeding our call to take part in today’s clean-up campaign. We brought all our environmental team members here today to make sure that this clean-up campaign becomes a huge success,” she said.

Ward 94 councillor David Foley expressed his satisfaction with the involvement of community members and thanked City Parks for organising the campaign aimed at keeping local rivers litter free.
“I am very pleased to see residents responding so well to this campaign. I am here with members of the ward committee to support this great initiative. I believe that campaigns of this nature can help educate members of the community on the importance of keeping our neighbourhoods clean.”

The spokesperson at City Parks Jenny Moodley said the campaign achieved its goal to raise awareness and keep rivers clean.

“Hundreds of residents supported by donors, sponsors, resident associations, recycling organisations, schools, members of the media and officials from Pikitup and Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo came out to make World Cleanup Day 2022 an incredible success. We want to thank everyone who participated and encourage those who didn’t to join us next time.”
