Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club has an eager volunteer still learning the ropes

While she may not be able to be a Rotarian, Syntiche Mupataie still finds time to assist in projects with the club.

Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club has several volunteers who assist various communities in projects that run for different periods of time.

While she may not be an official Rotarian, 21-year-old Syntiche Mupataie has aided the club in their recent handover project to learners in Diepsloot. The project began close to nine months ago, where a school had learners identified as in need of groceries at home.

The club visited the school again on August 27, and she joined in with other Rotarians to hand over groceries to Diepsloot families. Mupataie said she started tagging along for the grocery handover project in November last year, albeit she is not old enough to be part of the Rotary Club.
“The first time I went was because I was invited mainly to make an acquaintance and I kind of kept going after that. I enjoyed it more than I’d thought. Knowing that I’ve had a hand, even a small one, in helping others is rewarding,” she said.

Outside of the occasional times she assists with the club, she enjoys coding. Mupataie said there is a big importance for young people to join a Rotary Club.
“Rotary has a youth club as well as you have to be at least 30 years old to join the actual Rotary club and they offer student exchanges, camping trips and so forth.”
