Fourways residents embark on a cleaning initiative to keep neighbourhood clean

Concerned residents take initiative to clean open spaces along Cedar Road in Fourways

A group of concerned residents in Fourways in partnership with Craft Homes, Life Fourways Hospital and Live Life Always (LLA) embarked on an initiative to keep an open space along Cedar Avenue and Cedar Road clean.

Project coordinator Jutta Dudley said this was an ongoing campaign that utilised the services of LLA non-profit organisation that volunteers to clean up different streets in Fourways.

“For many months now, I have walked through this open space to get to Cedar Road and I am always horrified and saddened by the amount of litter and illegal dumping taking place in this area.

“The Fourways Life Hospital maintenance team took the initiative to clean up, water the plants, and do basic maintenance in this open space but passersby seem to use the area as a dumping ground for litter and building rubble and toilet facilities.

“Craft Homes offered us the use of two of their skips and a TLB to move boulders around so that the park [open space] is no longer a parking area for people visiting the hospital. There are now boulders protecting this area and two skips have been filled with rubble, litter, and vegetation by the capable team of LLA volunteers.”

She urged members of the community to lend a helping hand by donating money towards the initiative.

“Should anyone wish to contribute towards this cleaning campaign, they should contact us or join us during our cleaning campaigns.”
