Newly launched Women’s Forum aimed at helping female health workers in Johannesburg Health District

Newly launched Women’s Forum of the Department of Health will equip workers in the health sector.

To stimulate women empowerment and establish a social dialogue between female employees, Johannesburg Health District launched a Women’s Forum at Diepsloot Youth Centre on August 12.

The launch was attended by more than 200 women who work at various clinics and those working in the district’s offices.

Deputy director at the Gauteng Department of Health, Lombuso Matlala believed that the newly launched forum will help improve the lives of workers.

She said the forum would be a platform on which women could share their struggles and challenges that affected their daily life and have a negative impact on their work.

“With this platform, women will be provided with an opportunity to share best practices focused on reducing girls and women’s vulnerability to violence in all its forms, as well as highlight the role of women as agents of peace and development in South Africa.

“Through this platform, we will also organise events where different professionals will be invited to talk about issues that affect women in the workplace such as financial issues, domestic violence, gender-based violence, depression among women, and other challenges that affect women in life at large.”
