Local dancer remains the only South African to have ever won the fast event at the premier level.

Alexandra had to wait three years to defend her slow and fast-move freestyle dance titles she won at the 2019 championships.

She remains the only South African to have ever won the fast event at the premier level.

She said training hard and remaining positive every day helped her to defend her two titles successfully.

“I had to wait three years to defend my titles because of the intervening restrictions on travel brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. But I never gave up on my ambition to defend my titles. I trained six to seven days a week, six hours a day to keep myself fit for the competition.”

The 23-year-old local dancer said endurance had helped her defend her titles despite breaking her foot during the semi-finals round.

“I had to endure immense pain and displayed great courage and determination to dance on and participate in the finals. My endurance paid off at the end of the day and I am grateful that I defended my titles.”

Alexandra intends to become a full-time dance teacher once she retires as a dancer.

“Freestyle dance is an extremely frenetic sport and at my age, I am already considered old for the sport.”
