Otter fun run hosted in Lonehill

The proceeds of the race will go towards a rehabilitation project.

Otter Estates hosted the 20th annual Otter Family Charity Challenge fun run on July 16.

The fun run attracted an estimated 800 participants.

The charity event was hosted with the purpose of raising funds for the Save the dam project.
Save the dam is a rehabilitation project started in 2020 by the Lonehill Residents Association with the aim of permanently eradicating alien invasive aquatic weeds in the Lonehill Dam.

The 5km route started and finished in Lonehill Park. Metro police helped control the traffic and SLA Medics and Fidelity Security Group assisted the runners and walkers where necessary on the route.

Christopher Otter of Otter Estates said, “With a bit of luck we will raise enough money, probably 40 to 50 thousand rand which will go towards the Lonehill Dam.”

The pet-friendly event had a great turnout with families coming out to get fit and support a good cause. Merilyn Williams, one of the participants, said the event was a good opportunity to come out and support a good cause.

The first 1 000 runners received a goodie bag and many prizes were won throughout the event.
