Sunninghill Ratepayers Association warns motorists about smash-and-grabs at congested intersections

The association urged community members to be extra cautious when driving or approaching intersections such as Witkoppen Road and Maxwell Drive and others.

Sunninghill Ratepayers Association said it had instructed a security company that operated in the area to patrol congested intersections in and around Sunninghill area during peak hours.

This was after a number of smash-and-grab cases were recently reported at busy intersections during the early hours of the day and in the afternoons.

The association urged community members to be extra cautious when driving or approaching intersections such as Witkoppen Road and Maxwell Drive and others.

The association said these criminals walked between the cars to check what was lying on the seats when traffic was moving slowly while their accomplices were waiting in a getaway car nearby.

“These criminals are targeting people when they are going to or come back from work in the morning and afternoon. They walk around at the corner of Witkoppen Road and Maxwell Drive, also on Bowling Avenue and Witkoppen Road. They do not just break the window but they first look at what is inside the car before doing a smash-and-grab.”
