Raise The Bra Initiative announces national rollout

New and used bras can be donated at the Cure Day Hospital Fourways

In May 2022, the popular Raise The Bra initiative for impoverished women returned. Raise The Bra is an annual project in South Africa that benefits high school learners and older women.

The initiative is spearheaded by celebrity plastic surgeon Dr Deon Weyers.

Due to popular demand, the campaign has expanded beyond Weyer’s patients and has received great support and donations from people from all walks of life. In 2022, Raise The Bra will go national, allowing donors to drop off their previously loved bras at a number of Cure Day Hospitals across the country.

Every year, the bras are collected at Dr Deon’s practice in Fourways’ Life Hospital, and then distributed by the ZABRA – AfreeBra initiative’s staff. ZABRA is a worldwide volunteer network that partners with organisations that care for women in their care and who can benefit from free bras.

After the bras are dropped off, they are provided to high schools in Soweto, Alexandra, and other Gauteng schools that request them through the ZABRA – AfreeBra initiative.

To better manage the generous support from women, Raise The Bra expanded its collecting points throughout a national network this year. Raise The Bra collection stations can be found at a number of hospitals including the Cure Day Hospital Fourways.
